The Archaeological Museum of Argostoli in Kefalonia
The Archaeological Museum of Argostoli was founded in 1957 and fully renovated in 1999. The collection includes exhibits from the Paleolithic era to the After Romans era. In the first room there are tools of paleolithic settlements from Sami, from Fiskardo and from Scala, and findings from the Neolithic era from Poros, among which distinguishes a vase like jar dating to 4500 BC. In the second room there are findings of the Mycenaean period among which we distinguish these of ancient Kranh, the burial findings of the cemetery of Mazaraton, the 'skifos'(=ancient vessel) of the 11th century BC and the 'kratiras'(=ancient vessel used to drink wine) while in the same room there are the findings from the domed tomb and the chars of Poros . In the third room there are pots of Classical and Hellenistic times, exhibits from Kranh and Pronwn, which comprised with Sami and Palli, the 'kefalliniakin tetrapolin' in greek, and findings from the region of the Sami. Finally, they are exposed, three inscribed burial columns, a marble woman's head, a bronze male head and part of the mosaic floor of the temple of Poseidon in Lixouri.
